About Joni
Joni has been working in the field of mental health for over 15 years. She is a very patient and compassionate therapist who strives to explore strategies and skills to establish emotional well-being and positive connections. Joni provides support from a place of empathy and genuine positivity, where clients are encouraged to and make progress towards their significant goals. Her primary focus with children and adolescence is play-based and/or animal assisted therapy techniques. Joni has experience working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, grief & loss, relational issues, divorce, attachment, trauma, parenting, life transitions, addictions, as well as emotional regulation and behavioural concerns.
Joni will often use techniques that are trauma-informed when engaging with clients and will show compassion and patience throughout their unique therapeutic journey. Her approach incorporates supportive guidance for clients to thrive. As a supervisor, Joni will encourage intern therapists to focus on these aspects during their sessions and also establish a safe, comfortable environment for clients to build connection and make progress towards their individual goals.
The Stillwater Therapy team is committed to working together to connect with new therapists to share knowledge and expand the practice to be considered a place for interns to learn essential skills, explore their options, and grow in their knowledge and skillset as a therapist. Joni will integrate a collaborative approach to incorporate learning opportunities in various therapeutic modalities in order for the intern to learn and practice effective strategies with their clients. Feel free to contact the office for details on booking individual supervision sessions or applying for an intern placement.
